5 Pump Court is a diverse, progressive, multidisciplinary set with specialist practice teams in criminal, civil and family law. We are looking for a new Practice Manager for our criminal team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is currently in a junior role in a clerking team looking to take a step up to running the team! The ideal candidate will have some years’ experience of criminal clerking, including diary management and business development, and be able to manage both prosecution and defence work.
We are looking for someone with drive and ambition who can work with our Members and our Chambers Director to build on our team’s current position. This role would particularly suit someone who is enthusiastic about marketing, keen to promote a team and who is able to build strong relationships with clients.
The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate the following:
- A proven track record in clerking and in business development;
- The ability to build effective working relationships with clients and members, and to work well in a small staff team;
- Good spoken and written communication skills;
- Good organisational and time-management skills and the ability to work under pressure and to deadlines.
In addition, we expect the successful applicant to have IT skills such as Word, Outlook, and Excel (we work on MLC but can provide training on that platform). You should be familiar with the billing procedures which apply to criminal work.
We offer a competitive salary (£50,000+ (more may be available for an exceptional candidate)), flexibility (including the ability to work from home on a regular basis) and the opportunity to take your career to the next level. There is also the possibility to expand your experience by combining the criminal clerking with civil or family clerking.
To apply, please submit your CV and covering letter setting out why you are suitable for the role and highlighting relevant experience and personal qualities to Clare Kelly, Chambers Director at [email protected] by 5pm on Friday 1 September 2023.
If you would like an informal discussion before applying, please call 020 7632 7859.
