Monday 6th November 2017 – Friday 10th November 2017

The aims and objectives of the week are:

  • to raise awareness of pro bono opportunities amongst the legal profession;
  • to improve community understanding of pro bono; and
  • to increase free legal help to individuals, charities and community groups who cannot afford to pay.

This public legal education event aims to get as many legal professionals as possible volunteering one hour of their time in their local school over National Pro Bono Week, leading sessions with young people looking at the law around Social Media. Fully comprehensive, high quality materials have been created by the Citizenship Foundation to be used by participating lawyers. Any volunteers will also receive access to a training video to ensure that they feel confident in the classroom environment, they will also be provided with support in being matched with a local school by CF. During this year’s pilot of the programme there is a particular focus on Birmingham, Bristol, Manchester and Leeds.

This programme aims to increase young people’s understanding of the law, to raise their aspirations and to help them to develop vital employability skills, such as communication and team work. The materials provided are engaging and interactive and look at real life cases and scenarios of people’s online activity, helping them to understand their rights and responsibilities particularly when it comes to their online activities.

There is an application form available for those interested in participating in the week. This is the link to the application form

We hope that you can promote this opportunity in chambers and on your circuit.

If you have any additional questions about the campaign (or get queries from members of chambers/your circuit who are interested in volunteering in schools but are not available during National Pro Bono Week) please contact Therri Tait at
