Invitation – Practitioners’ roundtable via Teams
Monday 6th December 2021,
4.15-6.15pm
How racially minoritised women and migrant women are criminalised due to their experience of domestic abuse and other forms of VAWG
Chaired by Naima Sakande, Deputy Director, Appeal
With presentations by:
Pragna Patel, Director, Southall Black Sisters
Marchu Girma, Chief Executive, Hibiscus Initiatives
Please join us for this virtual roundtable discussion, which is being held jointly by Southall Black Sisters, Hibiscus Initiatives and the Centre for Women’s Justice (CWJ).
We aim to gather insights from criminal defence lawyers and specialist women’s services about the criminal justice response to racially minoritised women and migrant women who are victims of domestic abuse and are involved in alleged offending, and necessary reforms.
Following presentations by Pragna Patel and Marchu Girma about the problems and proposed solutions, we will hold a discussion on ‘Chatham House rules’ basis. Unattributed comments and insights from the event may be included in CWJ’s forthcoming briefing on the criminalisation of survivors of VAWG, now scheduled for publication in January 2022.
