Mr Justice Nicklin was called to the Bar in 1993 and from 1996 he specialised in privacy and defamation law from chambers at 5 Raymond Buildings, where he was joint head of chambers from 2014 to 2017. He was a Recorder from 2009 to 2017, and took Silk in 2013. In 2010 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts. He was appointed as judge of the High Court on 2 October 2017. Since February 2021, he has been the judge in charge of the Media and Communications list.
He is the chair of the Lady Chief Justice’s Transparency & Open Justice Board, which will support and coordinate a programme of a changes to promote transparency and open justice across the courts of England and Wales.
