The Criminal Bar Association is pleased to host a lecture on Trauma Informed Advocacy, delivered by Lynda Gibbs KC (Hon), Dean of the Inns of Court College of Advocacy (ICCA).

This session will explore the principles underpinning trauma informed advocacy and consider how advocates can adapt their approach in cases involving trauma, vulnerability and participation within the justice system. The lecture will address practical advocacy techniques, preparation and communication strategies, together with wider considerations concerning fairness, witness handling and professional practice.

Lynda Gibbs KC (Hon) was called to the Bar by Middle Temple in 1993 and practised in criminal and family law on the Midland Circuit before moving into legal education. She became Dean of the Inns of Court College of Advocacy in 2019 and leads post-qualification and Bar training. Lynda was appointed KC Honoris Causa in 2020 in recognition of her work promoting a fairer justice system for children and vulnerable people and improving Bar training. She has led the development of advocacy training relating to vulnerable witnesses, children and trauma-informed practice.
