Just an Ordinary Lawyer: A Performance Piece

“Just an Ordinary Lawyer”

Tunji Sowande was appointed Britain’s first black judge in 1978. “Just An Ordinary Lawyer” is the title of a stage play written and performed by Tayo Aluko, depicting Sowande’s eventful journey through British society and the legal profession. His life demonstrates the ability of individuals to achieve their goals, sometimes in the face of adversity.

The play will be performed in front of a diverse audience including young students, trainee lawyers, practicing barristers, solicitors, legal executives, judges, and others.

Attendees will be able to network and connect with each other before and after the play.

The play will be performed at the studio theatre at The Rep in Birmingham on 17th October 2022.

A pre-play reception will commence at 5.30pm in the theatre’s reception area, before the play starting at 7pm. Refreshments will be provided. There will be a Q & A session after the play featuring young law students, lawyers, and judges. Networking will continue in the bar area to close out what promises to be an exciting evening.
